I went on my first backpacking trip solo this past weekend and it was everything I'd hoped it would be and more. I learned some valuable lessons as well. Mostly though I'd say I learned that when you are sitting under a piece of nylon canvas and mosquito netting in the middle of a forest on the top of a mountain ridge, you get a sense really quickly of how insignificant you really are. If a tree were to fall on you at that very moment the mountain would keep on going and not even notice. It cert… Continue

Backpacking in the Fall has to be one of my favorite times of the year to get out into the backcountry. Last year I did a 32 mile trip from Elkmont to Cades Cove in the GSMNP. It was awesome. I'm planning like crazy to get out there again this year. Can't wait to share some vid and pics with ya all. I would like to get some really cool fall hikes together. If anyone can suggest some, that would be very cool. You can check out my newest… Continue

So i finally figured out how to use Microsoft movie Maker, or at least figured out that I even left it installed. I have not had much time to mess with it, but the videos will improve, I promise. So far all I have figured out is adding effects, overlaying texts and audio. So Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy the first 2. -Kev
Hey everyone. I don't know who has checked out my webpage recently and noticed absolutely no changes. Well that was because I was on tour and now I am back. I recently implemented a whole new layout that will be finished within a few days. But I was able to upload my tour pictures. There is a link at the top of the page. www.alphabluetech.com/kjhanlon

Only 6 more weeks until Yosemite! We are doing a 5-night backpacking trip in Yosemite's high country. We've done several local overnight backpacking trips in the last 6 months to practice and prepare. I am mostly ready, but will have to take one more trip to REI to get any last minute gear and some food.
ABC News (Good Morning America) ran a story today about a couple who was lost for 6 days in the Grand Canyon. You can see the video here. Just goes to show how careful you have to be when planning a trip in the backcountry. Not sure if they had a map or not, but they seemed to be experienced hikers. According to the Grand Canyon National Park, this sort of thing happens more than you think. What's more important? Pla… Continue
Whats up journal? Tere and I are still at Seneca Rocks in WV. We have been having so much fun, haven't had the will power to want to leave yet. I have been spending the past couple days in Rock Climbing mode and have been trad climbing basically the whole time. There is not much setup for top roping but the lead climbing is the best on the east coast. I will have some pictures uploaded when I get to organize and upload some. The backpacking terrain is typical WV terrain, rocky, and rolling mount… Continue
